Israeli culture comes to India E-mail

As part of the celebrations to mark 25 years of the growing partnership between India and Israel, several cultural events took place around India recently.

The Dafi Dance Group of Israel performed in Calcutta on 27 March, in Delhi on 29 March and in Chandigarh on 31 March. The group currently comprises 14 freelance dancers, each performing in one or more of the five pieces in the group’s repertoire.

Alongside the performances, the group held workshops, master classes and repertoire classes for professional dancers, beginners and high-school students.

The group was founded by choreographer Dafi Altabeb, who is also an accomplished musician and dancer. Her pieces are performed in all major venues in Israel and are premièred in major festivals around the world. On 25 March, in collaboration with the first Habitat International Film Festival, the Embassy of Israel in India showcased the Israeli film An Israeli Love Story, by the celebrated director Dan Wolman, who was in attendance for the screening. The film was shown at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi. Following the screening, Wolman participated in a discussion with the audience.
