Israel proposes India as focus country at Jerusalem Film Festival in 2020 E-mail

Israel has proposed India to be the focus country at Jerusalem Film Festival next year during a meeting between the delegations of the two countries at the Cannes International Film Festival in May.

Indian film Newton, starring Rajkummar Rao, has recently created a buzz in Israel, the Israeli delegation said. Premiered in 2017, the film is a black comedy drama about a government clerk that tries to run a free and fair election in a conflict area in central India.

The Indian delegation at Cannes was led by Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare, while Eti Cohen (Director of the Film Department and Council at the Ministry of Culture and Sports) led the delegation for Israel.
