Record breaking Rosh Hashanah observance in Thailand E-mail

The Jewish Community of Thailand reported a remarkably high rate of attendance at their Rosh Hashanah services despite the recent events and military display in the city.  

For the first evening alone, the guest count exceeded 4000 participants. Chabad House on KaoSam Road,  in Bangkok, played host to 1100 in attendance. Ko Samui reported attendance of 1350. Other figures included: 650 in Chiang Mai, 400 in Phuket and 100 in Luan Prabang.

Hong Kong Jewish film festival ready to reel in success E-mail

Who would have guessed that Hong Kong would be home to a Jewish Film Festival that is attracting worldwide attention?  The festival is busy preparing for its seventh annual event.

Howard Elias, the festivals coordinator and founder, himself is astonished at the success of this event. What started as a light morning discussion regarding the dearth of Jewish films available to the Hong Kong community has resulted in a massive project that has taken on a life of its own.

Singapore constructs new centre E-mail

The Jewish community of Singapore, made up of several hundred members, is home to not one but two synagogues serving a diverse spectrum of Jews comprised of Orthodox, Israelis and a Progressive/Reform movement.

Construction is already  underway to build a new community centre adjacent to the city’s central synagogue.

Ideas flow with israeli water technology delegation visit E-mail

The China/Hong Kong-Israel Investment Council hosted a water technologies forum in Hong and Beijing in cooperation with the Water Technologies Delegation, headed by Avraham Israeli.   The session on Monday, September 18, held at the Jewish Community Centre of Hong Kong,  brought together numerous large manufacturers based in Hong Kong and China with Israeli corporations seeking to expand in the region.

Many of these companies announced they were seeking local partnerships and joint ventures. While members of the delegation own the technology for these specific state of the art water management systems, the local companies alone can provide the contacts and know-how required to succeed in this market.
