Yukiko Sugihara dies E-mail

Yukiko Sugihara, the wife of Chiune Sugihara, died in Fujisawa, Japan on 8 October at the age of 94. Mrs. Sugihara had a tremendous role in history as she was the one who encouraged her husband in his act of heroism.

In 1940, she openly insisted that her husband, Chiune, Japan’s consul in Kovno, Lithuania, issue life-saving visas to thousands of Polish Jews. He was named Righteous Among the Nations by the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem.
