Israeli officials help mark Vietnam's Tet E-mail

The Israeli embassy in Vietnam paid visits to a number of needy groups in Vietnam in an effort to give back to the Vietnamese people in a show of friendship and support.

Recent Gaza conflict protested in Indonesia and region E-mail

The tiny Jewish community of Indonesia reports that they are safe though amidst very angry protests following the conflict in Gaza. Leaders from the Jewish community sought protection for the Beth Hashem Synagogue from members of Indonesia's parliament.

Korean Institute of Israel Studies E-mail

The Korean Institute of Israel Studies was offi cially inaugurated on 2 December 2008 at the Israel Culture Center in Seoul. The Institute was founded by 40 Korean professors who received their doctorates and Masters degrees at various universities in Israel.

The purpose of the new Institute is to become a certifi ed academic and research organisation, or a think-tank, which will provide the Korean people with information about Israel, Judaism, Hebrew and the Bible.

Security is no laughing matter E-mail

Israeli Eliav Goali was arrested and charged with violation of Presidential Decree 1727 in Cebu, Philippines. Goali, age 23, told security officers at the Mactan International Airport that there was a bomb in his shoe as his shoes were being scanned through an airport x-ray machine.

Jewish High School to be established in Hong Kong E-mail

South East Asia will get its first High School as Carmel School of Hong Kong recently announced plans for expansion. Prior to this announcement, regional Jewish day schooling was only available through Grade 8.

There is the hope that this announcement will attract more Jewish and Israeli families to Hong Kong and allow families with older children a new educational opportunity.
