Carmel's Oscars Print E-mail

The Carmel School of Hong Kong will hold its annual dinner in February.  This year’s theme is the Oscars and it promises to be a fun filled evening.  

The event will commence with performances featuring all of the Carmel students. Silent and live auctions will follow.  Carmel relies heavily on this fundraiser for support.

Commemorative medal planned for the Jews of Kaifeng E-mail

The book The Jews of Kaifeng, the story of a rich and thriving culture, has inspired new art in the modern age. Receipt of the book from his daughter in Hong Kong, as a Chanukah gift, has turned into a mini-crusade for Mel Wacks, an American citizen with an interesting passion.

Mel Wacks collects medals and coins from all over the world and has built-up a very interesting and substantial collection. He has been collecting coins since childhood.

YMCA initiative to promote tourism for Israel E-mail

Consul General Dan Ben-Eliezer attended an event, in December, organised by Mr Jack Young, President of the YMCA of Hong Kong, to promote tourism and friendship for Israel.  The event took place at the YMCA on Salisbury Road in Tsimshatsui.

The Israeli Consul General gave greetings at the section of prayers and blessing for the nation and people of Israel, and pastors were encouraged to take groups to visit Israel.

"Make it Mozart" with Israeli flare E-mail

On 20 November, the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong will present its “Make it Mozart” programme, led by guest conductor Lior Shambadal.

Lior Shambadal, an Israeli, is the chief conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.  He has served as the chief conductor of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra and the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra.

Jewish film festival ready to roll E-mail

The Hong Kong Jewish Festival is counting down the days to its opening on 11 November.  The Festival will kick-off with its annual Shabbat Festival Dinner at the Jewish Community Centre on 10 November.  In attendance will be festival director, Howard Elias and featured filmmakers, Dov Gil-Har and Pierre Rehov.

Dov Gil-Har is the director of 10 Days in Gaza and  Pierre Rehov is the director of From the River to the Sea. Both films will be featured on 19 November and the filmmakers will likewise be present.
