Israel's Ciechanover gives lecture at Mahidol University Print

Professor Aaron J. Ciechanover, 2004 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, delivered a lecture entitled, Why our proteins have to die so we shall live, on 10 April 2008 at the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University of India.

The lecture, part of an ongoing dialogue for peace programme organised by the Vienna- based International Peace Foundation, attracted over 400 participants.

Professor Ciechanover was awarded the Nobel Prize 2004 for his discovery with Avram Hershko and Irwin Rose, of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation.He also was the recipient of the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research in 2000 and the Israel Prize for Biological Research in 2003.

He is currently a Technion Distinguished Research Professor in the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine and Research Institute at the Technion and is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Pontifi cal Academy of Sciences, and the United States National Academy of Sciences (Foreign Associate).
