Korea and Israel commenced discussions on stronger ties E-mail

South Korea and Israel have started discussions on ways to boost trade and bilateral economic cooperation at a meeting recently held in Jerusalem.

A statement issued by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade noted that Deputy Minister for Trade Ahn Hoyoung and his Israeli counterpart Boaz Hirsh were expected to discuss a free trade agreement (FTA) and stronger cooperation on renewable energy and industrial technology.

Anne Frank commemorated in Hong Kong E-mail

The Hong Kong's Jewish Events Committee organised a special two-day programme on 11-12 June, 2009 to commerate Anne Frank's 80th birthday.

The event has been designed for members of the community to actively participate in remembering this remarkable young woman, whose words have crossed religious, cultural and national boundaries with their universal messages of respect, tolerance and hope.

Hong Kong charity teams up with UJC E-mail

Crossroads, a Hong Kong based charity, collects essential household goods and distributes them to those most in need. The charity reports that while fifty percent of their shipments are to locally based recipients, the other fifty percent is distributed worldwide. They never purchase goods and rely completely on donations.

Likewise, they rely on volunteers to pack the containers prior to delivery and use a premise, provided by the HKSAR government, for storage.

Israeli wins silver medal at Asian Olympics in Physics E-mail

Itamar Hasson, a 17-year old student about to complete his B.Sc. with honours in Mathematics at Bar-Ilan University, earned a silver medal in Thailand in the Asian Olympics in Physics.

Bar-Ilan University President, Professor Moshe Kaveh, announced, “I am proud of your accomplishment on behalf of the State of Israel. You are a true prodigy with the ability to continue to excel.”

Tevel v'Tzedek gets expert agricultural aid E-mail

Founded by Micha Odenheimer just over two years ago Tevel v'Tzedek (The Earth in Justice) is an NGO devoted to humanitarian aid based projects in Nepal.

These projects include making improvements in agriculture, development, the handling of sewage, social issues and education.
