Green Village adventures for Taiwan youth E-mail

Five youths from Taiwan are in Israel to spend time at Hakefar-Hayarok (Green Village). Chang Hsin-yu, Cheng Yu-shun, Lin Yun, Chen Wanshiuan, and Hsieh Feng-ho, were invited by the Israeli Youth Council in a cultural exchange that doubles as a youth exchange and a scientific exchange programme.

The basic concepts of the experimental youth village are being developed according to the educational approach of the village: humane and democratic education, tolerance, acceptance of the environment, and connection to the land.

A special wedding engagement for Hong Kongs Rabbi E-mail

Josh and Danielle van den Bergh were married on 8 July at Shulhan David, next to the Zion Gate, Old City Jerusalem. It was a truly beautiful wedding set outside surrounded by trees and flowers and lit by candles.

Family travelled from Hong Kong, UK, Holland and all over Israel to attend and were joined by all Josh and Danielle's friends and teachers from Yeshiva & Sem.

China's MidEast envoy holds talks with Israeli President E-mail

China's Mid-East envoy Wu Sike was in Israel in June and held talks with Israeli President Shimon Peres on bilateral relations, regional peace situation and other issues.

Calling his host an old friend of the Chinese people, Wu expressed appreciation for Peres' active and important role in promoting Sino-Israeli ties and advancing the Middle East peace process, and voiced hope that as China's special emissary he could help bring forth an early resumption of Mid East peace talks.

Three institutions unite for global health E-mail

New York's Yeshiva University has been instrumental in bringing together public health systems of India and the US when the Yeshiva University President Richard M Joel signed a memo of understanding with his conterpart in India in 2007.

And now the two have joined forces with Haifa University in Israel to collaborate on furthering research and educational opportunities for faculty and students at the three institutions. The agreement was officially signed by the three organisations on June 22, in Israel.

Israel donates medical supplies to Sri Lanka E-mail

The Deputy Director General for the Asia and the Pacifi c region of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Israel Ruth Kahanoff, visited Sri Lanka recently to oversee the handing over of 230 boxes of medical supplies to the government of Sri Lanka.

These supplies are to be distributed among those in the International Displaced People Camps in the Northern Province following the recent fighting between the Tamil fighters and Sri-Lankan army. “It is a modest contribution from our country to help people in the North in the time of need,” she said.
