Ambassador Nadai visits Beijing University E-mail

Israeli Ambassador Amos Nadai and the Academic Attaché Avishay Gottdiener recently made an offi cial visit to Peking University. During the visit, Ambassador Nadai met with Professor Lin Jiahua, the Executive Vice President of Peking University.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Li Yansong, the Assistant President and the Director of the Office of International Relations, Professor Wang Suolao and Dr. Chen Yiyi from the School of Foreign Languages - The Hebrew Studies Programme.

Israeli teen sentenced in Japan E-mail

A Japanese court has sentenced one of three Israeli teens caught attempting to smuggle drugs into Japan with an eight year prison sentence and a US$40,000 fine according to the Israeli press. The teen, whose name can not be released, was caught with 90,000 ecstasy pills.

The other two Israelis are scheduled to stand trial in six weeks. Reportedly, the teens are all Yeshiva students, and claim that they were unaware that the suitcase they carried - contained illegal drugs.

Political unrest and Pesach in Thailand E-mail

Thailand continues to be one of the World the top travel locations for Israeli backpackers. Despite recent protests and political unrest, young Israelis unnerved by travel warnings continued to pour into Thailand.

The streets were filled with local protestors and Thai New Year merrymakers but the Israelis were able to navigate through the chaotic scene in order to make it to Chabad Houses for Passover.

Filipino scholars attend MASHAV course E-mail

A MASHAV course on fresh agricultural produce in Israel that ran through the end of March was attended by fourteen scholars from the Philippines conducted by the Center for International Agricultural Development Cooperation (CINADCO) at the Hotel Kibbutz Shefayim, Israel.

Their pre-departure briefi ng was led by Deputy Chief of Mission Yaniv Revach and included participation from Dr. Eugen Baltazar of the Philippine-Israel Center for Agricultural Training Project in Nueva Ecija.
