Non-traditional Israeli couple uses Indian surrogate E-mail

It is reported that two Israeli men have become the first known same-sex couple to ‘father’ children through Mumbai’s growing surrogacy programmes.

The couple’s twins, a boy and a girl, were reportedly born in September at Hiranandani Hospital and taken home to Israel.
Infertility specialist Dr Gautam Allahbadia of Rotunda Clinic, Centre for Human Reproduction indicated that the surrogacy programme is growing in popularity. It is estimated that between 100-150 babies are born each year to surrogates in India.

Ohel Leah holds ceremony to mark UN Holocaust Memorial Day E-mail

The Ohel Leah Synagogue held a ceremony to mark United Nations Holocaust Memorial Day on 28 January 2008.

The ceremony, held inside the Synagogue itself, was attended by over sixteen consul generals, local government officials, religious leaders representing other faiths, members of the local press, community members and student participants from the recent Anne Frank exhibition.

David Sassoon's legacy given new life E-mail
Rabbi Berger and Rabbi van den Bergh

The Ohel Leah Synagogue of Hong Kong recently rededicated the Sassoon Haftorah in a beautifully orchestrated Lettering Ceremony held on 6 December and a special ceremony on Shabbat morning services on 8 December.  

Rabbi Ezra Berger, along with his wife Leah, made the journey to Hong Kong in order to serve as the sofer for this project.
As children proudly waved coloured flags, the Haftorah, dedicated by members of the Ohel Synagogue community, was escorted back into the shul. The words, “Bring us back to you Hashem and we shall return, renew our days of old,” were uttered.

"Heart to Heart" linking Israel and China E-mail

Mr. Amos Nadai, Israeli Ambassador to China, paid a recent visit to Shijia Primary School, as part of the collaboration between Shijia Primary School and the Embassy of Israel in the “Heart to Heart” Project.

The Project links local Chinese schools and allows them to ‘adopt’ national teams that will take part in the upcoming Olympics.

Beijing will 'parlez vous francais' E-mail

Chabad announced that the newest members of their emissary team in Beijing are able to specifically cater to the increasing number of Jewish French speakers. Programmes are being tailored with this group in mind.

Rabbi Nussin and Miriam Rodin arrived to assist Rabbi Shimon and Dini Freundlich at the local Rohr Family Chabad Community Centre. Nussin Rodin, a native of Ottawa, Canada, gave Beijing’s first French-only class on Pirkei Avot.
