JWA- 60 years of strength E-mail

The Jewish Women’s Association of Hong Kong (JWA), a registered charity, has a long history as an integral part of the community. The organisation was founded in 1947 and draws membership from a diverse group of Jewish women that cover the spectrum in terms of nationality, age and religious affiliation.

In its early days, the JWA centered its activities on providing aid to the World War II refugees, many of whom sought shelter in Asia itself. When the State of Israel was established, the organisation expanded its reach and became a supporter of the new state mainly through focus on the youth aliyah movements and other beneficiaries in Israel.

Taiwan-Israel economic cooperation conference held E-mail

Taiwan and Israel held their ninth annual economic and technological cooperation conference in Jerusalem. The Taiwanese delegation was headed by Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Hsieh Fa-tah.  

Representatives from the public and private sectors of both countries were in attendance.  The focus of the talks was the high-tech product market.  Israel is a proven leader in research and development, while Taiwan is recognized as a leader in the manufacture of high-tech goods.

March preparations Print E-mail

Final preparations are underway for the March of the Living Hong Kong/ Asia delegation. Arrangements are being coordinated  by the Hong Kong Jewish Community Centre’s Events Committee (JCCEC).

Carmel's Oscars Print E-mail

The Carmel School of Hong Kong will hold its annual dinner in February.  This year’s theme is the Oscars and it promises to be a fun filled evening.  

The event will commence with performances featuring all of the Carmel students. Silent and live auctions will follow.  Carmel relies heavily on this fundraiser for support.

Commemorative medal planned for the Jews of Kaifeng E-mail

The book The Jews of Kaifeng, the story of a rich and thriving culture, has inspired new art in the modern age. Receipt of the book from his daughter in Hong Kong, as a Chanukah gift, has turned into a mini-crusade for Mel Wacks, an American citizen with an interesting passion.

Mel Wacks collects medals and coins from all over the world and has built-up a very interesting and substantial collection. He has been collecting coins since childhood.
