The Israeli national Kendo team, comprising seven Kendo fighters, participated in the 16th World Kendo Championships (WKC), held at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo from 29 to 31 May.

The event brought together participating teams from 56 countries and regions. The four competitions in the event were the Men’s Individual Championship, the Women’s Individual Championship, the Women’s Team Championship and the Men’s Team Championship. Japan won in all four categories.

The WKC is the premium event where Kendo competitors from all over the world gather to test their skills. Under the sponsorship of the International Kendo Federation, the WKC has been held once every three years ever since the first one was held in Tokyo in 1970. In that year, only 17 countries and regions participated. Since then, more competitors from more countries have participated, and Kendo has become a very popular sport.
