Tisha B’av means the ninth of Av, a traditional day of mourning and fasting. The holiday’s impact is intensified by the fact that it falls in the midst of summer holidays, a time of recreation and relaxation for many families. The holiday reconnects us with our past as we recall a number of historical events, beginning with the destruction of the First Temple in 586 B.C.E. through the Shoah in the 1940s.
