The 24th Israeli Film Festival promoting culture and diversity |
Held in Singapore, the Israeli Film Festival is one of the longest-running national film festivals in the country. 2016 marked the 24th year of the film festival, and every film reflected Israel’s unique culture. These movies allow for multicultural interaction and provide an ideal platform for discussion, education and entertainment. Israel’s embassy in Singapore showcased five films that promoted discourse and a better understanding of Israeli and Jewish culture and faith. The festival was held from 22 to 25 September at The Projector in Golden Mile Tower, a modernist architectural icon of early Singapore that has revived two cinema halls and the 5th-floor foyer of the historic Golden Theatre. The opening film at this year’s festival was The Farewell Party. Directed by the talented duo of Sharon Maymon and Tal Granit, this highly celebrated film deals with the universal theme of aging. It is an engaging comedy about an aging man who invents a machine that can help his friends end their own lives, respectfully and on their own terms, and it manages to take a tough topic and create a charming atmosphere, making it relatable to all. Ultimately, it’s a film about love, family and choices. The directors were present at the festival and joined the audience at The Projector for an exclusive Q&A session after the screening of the film. Please login or register to see the full article
