Professor Alexander Tamir Conducts Masters Classes in HK Print E-mail

Alexander Tamir, professor emeritus at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, conducted a series of masters’ classes in Hong Kong.  His visit was in conjunction with his role as the director of the Israel Young Artists Competition and with the visit of Dorel Golan.

He commented that visits, like this one, remind the world that Israel is strong competitor in the international music scene.

Professor Tamir held the title of Dean of the Academy and is Head of the Keyboard Department at the Academy. For decades has been known worldwide as one of Israel’s leading pianists.

He received much international acclaim when he teamed up with the late Bracha Eden to form the world-renowned piano duo Eden and Tamir.  Professor Tamir also established the Chopin Society in Israel and the Ein Kerem Music Center -Targ Center in Jerusalem.

With respect to the Hong Kong music students, Professor Tamir remarked that he was “very much impressed” with the level of talent and dedication that he found here.

Although his professional career has taken him on a worldwide journey, performing in practically every major city worldwide, many times over, when asked where he most enjoyed performing, he responded, “Home- Jerusalem.”
