Two days before the festival of Shavout, a Torah dedication ceremony was held at the Chabad House in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. A few months ago Jewish expatriates , Malka and Adam Shladov realised that the Jewish community in Vietnam did not own their own Sefer Torah. So they decided to buy one as a gift to the community and dedicated the Sefer Torah to the memory of Mr Shaldov’s parents who perished in the Holocaust.
In honour of the festive occasion, the community welcomed the Torah with joy and dancing with the traditional Hakafot. Afterwards the community enjoyed a specially prepared dinner by an Italian chef. Those who attended received a special souvenir for the occasion. The event was followed by a celebratory farbrengen lead by Rabbi Menachem Hartman. (Issue June 2010)
