Amuday Shlomo (The Pillars of Shlomo), a new cheder, has officially opened in Hong Kong. This endeavour was dreamed up and made a reality by Jacob Zion, family and dedicated supporters.
The cheder is centrally located and is devoted to educating children ages five through twelve. To date, twelve children have enrolled for the fall term which began the last week of August.

Agency continues tsunami aid |

B’nai B’rith’s World Center is in the process of reviewing their post-tsunami development projects. These projects are mainly aimed at providing aid to Sri Lanka, which suffered millions in damages.
The development projects require the cooperation of numerous international partners and focus on rehabilitation, training, and rebuilding the country’s southern province, the area hit hardest by the tsunami.

Anti-Semitic attack in Christchurch, New Zealand |

The Jewish Community of Christchurch New Zealand awoke to find itself a victim of a heinous attack. Explicit graffiti was sprayed in green across the entrance of the community’s synagogue.
The brass plaque on the main gate had swastikas etched into its surface. Additionally, the plaque was vandalised with the words, “6 million Jews… 40 million people in total. What makes you so special?”

Mumbai's Jews unharmed by bombings |

In July blasts targeted Mumbai’s busy commuter rail system leaving nearly 200 dead and 400 injured. This attack was one in a series of tensions between the state and extremist Islamic groups.
Mumbai’s Muslim community, comprised of nearly 4 million residents, immediately issued statements condemning the attacks.

Aish UK 2006 visits Hong Kong |

In August, the Ohel Leah Synagogue was filled as nearly two hundred Jewish students taking part in this summer’s Aish Fellowship Programme spent Shabbat in Hong Kong.
Local residents were more than happy to give up their seats to this enthusiastic group. The Hong Kong stop-over took place as part of the Australian Aish Fellowships Programme.
