B'nai B'rith's top honour awarded to John Howard E-mail

Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, was awarded B’nai B’rith’s International Presidential Gold Medal.

The international organisation recognised Howard’s support of Israel and the Jewish community.

UJC hires husband & wife 'Rabbinic Team' E-mail

United Jewish Congregation, of Hong Kong, has recently announced they have hired two rabbis to head their congregation. 

Rabbis David and Patti Kopstein, husband and wife, will join the community in September.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah clubs success E-mail

Hong Kong’s Chabad wraps up its Bar and Bat Mitzvah clubs for the summer.  Both groups had productive years.

A group of around ten boys participated this year in the Bar Mitzvah group, which met on Sunday mornings for minyan and breakfast with their dads.

Carmel School entertains distinguished visitors E-mail

Carmel School, of Hong Kong, played host to three distinguished visitors in June: Israeli violinist Pinchas Zuckerman and his wife, cellist Amanda Forsyth and story teller, Hanoch Teller.

Renowned Israeli violinist Pinchas Zukerman and his wife, cellist Amanda Forsyth, performed for an afternoon assembly. They performed duos by Kodaly, Hava Nagila, and Hatikvah for the enthusiastic students.

Quest for establishment of a new cheder E-mail

Jacob Zion has a vision of creating a cheder in Hong Kong to answer the needs of Jewish Middle School children.  Zion believes that this cheder would make Hong Kong more attractive to many other families.

Jacob Zion is a ba’al tshuva from a traditional Israeli home. Twenty years ago, he became religious while working in Hong Kong in the diamond business. He now  has a dream, Zion wants to create a cheder.
