Torah scholar-playwright visits Hong Kong E-mail

Lecturer and writer Yael Unterman visited Ohel Leah Synagogue as a visiting scholar last month.

Ms. Unterman currently lectures at Pardes, Melitz and Ta Shma in Israel, and was on her way to a series of lectures in Australia during her Hong Kong stopover.

2006 Chabad summer camps announced E-mail

Chabad Hong Kong is making plans for another exciting summer of Gan Israel Day Camps, to be held 3-14 July 2006, for children aged 3-12.

There will be three groups: 3-4 year-olds; 5-8 year-olds; and for children aged 9 and up, Career Camp.

JWA Ball well attended Print E-mail

The Hong Kong Jewish Women’s Association held its annual Israel Independence Day Ball on 7 May. Attendance was the highest ever: 370 people.

The annual ball supports the Hong Kong Commnuity Chest and three Israeli charities.Nahalat Yehuda Youth Village is a programme for high-risk youth. Tlalim supports children who cannot attend school physically due to illness or an accident. The Hayim Association works to improve the quality of life for children with cancer.

Aumann addresses public E-mail

Dr. Robert J. Aumann, 2005 Nobel Prize laureate in Economics, spoke as part of the Chinese University – Sun Hung Kai Nobel Laureates Lecure Series in Hong Kong on May 22.

The lecture, which was open to the public, also featured Dr. Robert A. Mundell, 1999 Nobel Laureate in Economics, Dr. Samuel C. C. Ting, 1976 Nobel Laureate in Physics, and Dr. Kurt Wüthrich, 2002 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry.

Taiwan Rabbi receives awards in Nebraska E-mail

Rabbi Dr. Ephaim Einhorn, leader of the Taipei Jewish Community, was busy in April in the western United States.

Dr. Einhorn was presented with the First Annual Einhorn International Mentor Award by Nancy Belck, Chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, “in recognition of his outstanding contributions as a mentor to advance international education and understanding.”
